Past-president ACCA Canada
ACCA International Assembly member
I am delighted to inform you that I have been nominated to run for election to ACCA governing Council in 2008.
Firstly, let me say that it is important that every Member’s voice be heard and that we all vote in the upcoming election, either by mail or online.
Secondly, I am asking for your vote. As many of you know I have been an active member of ACCA Canada since emigrating from London in 1979. Previously I held all of the Officer positions of our local Executive at one time or another, including President. Most recently I was a Canadian representative to the Association’s International Assembly for three years.
Over the years I have worked to increase member engagement through organizing events and improving funding from London, communicating with new members as immigrants to Canada, and representing our Membership with other Canadian Accounting bodies and government agencies. Most recently I have been more active in CPD activities, including delivering presentations.
I feel that it is my demonstrated team work and commitment to our Membership that makes me well suited to be a member of Council; as well as my broad International experience. During my career I have had the privilege of representing Canada at ISO for over 15 years in Banking Security and at the OECD in privacy and electronic authentication. A large part of my career was with Scotiabank, as an Auditor and an IT Executive; so I have global experience and know how diplomacy works to get things done.
In my 28 years in Canada I have worked for and seen a vision come to reality. The remarkable growth in our membership over that period through the relocation to Canada of hard working, experienced and knowledgeable people of great diversity has meant that the Association has recently forged an agreement with the CGAs. If elected to Council my commitment is to ensure that we properly leverage the benefits from this agreement. In 2007 I met my commitment to obtain the CGA designation and I encourage all ACCAs in Canada to consider it also.
So please help take my dedication, experience and commitment to ACCA Members to the next level by voting for me and, thus allow me to be able to contribute to ACCA at Council on your behalf. Please also consider voting for Claude Birch from the USA. Thank you and I look forward to meeting you all again soon and representing you at Council; and remember please vote, regardless of who you support.
