Letter from Chief Executive to members, affiliates and students
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
22 August 2006
Dear members, affiliates and students,
I am delighted to inform you that today ACCA has signed a new and different Mutual Recognition Agreement with the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA). This reciprocal agreement describes the arrangements whereby the two bodies agree to work together and the process for recognising each other’s members. It is effective for a period of five years, retroactive to 1 July 2005.
This new agreement recognises that our respective qualifications differ in learning objectives but not in quality and also that the routes to achieving membership are different.
In this letter, it is not possible to go into detail on how the new arrangements may affect individuals because personal situations vary. However, in summary, members of ACCA must now have a university degree, pass the final professional examination of the Institute’s qualification programme and gain practical work experience under an Institute-authorised employer or supervisor to become a member of HKICPA.
A copy of our joint news release, and detailed explanations of the requirements and answers to common questions are available on the links on the sidebar. Please refer to these sections for information relevant to your personal circumstances. If you have further questions please contact the Hong Kong office at 2524 4988.
Before closing, I want to recognise the many people at ACCA, both in Hong Kong and the UK, who have worked diligently over the last two years to achieve this new agreement. I particularly want to thank the members of the Hong Kong Committee and Hong Kong Council Members for their tireless efforts and forthright input.
The new agreement provides a clear direction for our students and members, whether they wish to work in business, government or in professional practice. ACCA will continue to promote its brand to employers and to recruit and educate accomplished students so that they can take their place as the business leaders of tomorrow in Hong Kong and the rest of the world.
Yours sincerely,

Allen Blewitt
Chief Executive
