Case question
Introduction
The purpose of this Competition is to give students an insight of accountancy by illustrating how financial decisions can impact upon the success of an organisation. The scenario of planning an international event is used and students are required to make a series of decisions that will affect their final profit margin.
Case Scenario
You are a team of international event organisers. It is your task to stage a successful international event to raise funds for educating children in the poverty area in Mainland China.
Venue
Every concert has to take place somewhere. As the organisers, you need to choose a suitable venue for your concert. It is essential to try and match the appropriate venue with the chosen event. The venue will also have to match with audience's expectations.
There are four venues to choose from. Read the venue profiles carefully before making your choice.
Event
An international event with well-known performers can always command loyalty and have a strong market position. Your task is to pick one event from the list and sell your targeted number of tickets at the right price.
Your task
Each team is an international event management company and your challenge is to organise a successful international event for fund-raising purposes. Think of a name for your event management company. Choose one venue and one event that your company is going to organise. Present your business proposal to a panel of potential sponsors who are planning to sponsor an international concert with HK$5 million. Your team understands that this group of sponsors is interested in providing sponsorship for charity purposes, and expects the event to be profitable in order to maximise the donation fund for educating children in Mainland China.

Venues
Tamar
With 4.2-hectare large, the Tamar site is one of the last remaining empty waterfront sites along Victoria Harbour. It is currently the most expensive piece of empty land in Hong Kong. A number of large-scale functions including expos and musical or theatrical performances had been staged at the Tamar Site before. A few examples are Saltimbanco by Cirque Du Soleil, the annual Hong Kong Product Expo, the Hong Kong Internatoinal Film Festival and the "Harbour Fest". The entire site has played host to a fun-fair in 2005 and 2006.
Hong Kong Stadium
Re-developed from the old Government Stadium, the new Hong Kong Stadium was re-opened in March 1994. With a maximum seating capacity of 40,000 the Stadium is at present the largest outdoor multi-purpose entertainment and sports venue in Hong Kong.
It has been designed and equipped for the hosting of a wide variety of sporting, entertainment, cultural, religious and community events.
